Planets in the First House

Planets rising in the ascendant produce their own influences. Prima facie it seems absurd that the accidental positions of planetary bodies at the moment of birth of a child influence his health, finance, fortunes, affections and disposition throughout his earthly career. But experiment has shown that there is an intimate connection between the positions of planets at the time of birth and a baby’s material and moral dispositions. The horoscope should be considered as a person and not as a set of disconnected planetary influences. There is something that links up these scattered and contradictory fragments into a connected and coherent whole. The twelve houses represent not only the mould in which the young life takes shape at birth, but they are unalterable as to their primary significance when affected by the planets at birth. Diagnosis of any chart may be obtained when we first show the effects of the different planets being situated in the different signs.

The interpretations given below are for the planets by their positions in the houses only, unaspected. If a planet situated in the first house is aspected by or is in conjunction with any other planet, then its effects by house position, as given below are subjected to modification correspondingly. The details given below must be adapted to suit the requirements of the horoscope in question. First see whether in the first house, any planet is exalted or debilitated and whether the planet in the first house has caused any special yogas etc. (This principle applies to all other houses also). Then modify the reading accordingly. For example, Aquarius is the ascendant and Saturn is rising there. The disposition is calm, serious and grave. The native is faithful. Since Aquarius is the ascendant, the good qualities of Saturn will further manifest as lord of the rising sign is in his own house. If Leo is the rising sign, then the horoscope becomes unfortunate indicating many sorrows, disappointments, poverty and an uphill road generally. By using considerable discretion qualifying or moderating your deductions to comfirm with the astrological testimonies – you can unfold your power of prediction. Summing up, the above remarks-

(a)    Consider the nature of the rising planet

(b)   Whether the planet is in exaltation, debilitation, own sign, friendly sign or inimical sign.

(c)    Note the aspects planet receives from the planets – the houses from which aspects are cast and the conjunctions of the rising planet.

(d)   The nature of the sign – movable, fixed, dual, airy, watery, earthy, fiery.

 

Sun in the first house: Strong moral nature, righteous minded, ambition and love of power, tends to ne well supported by good health and vitality. Cheerfulness and an optimistic temperament help to ensure popularity. It adds respect to the personality and gives lofty motives. If with Saturn or Mars, it indicates scars and a hot constitution. The blood becomes impure and there will be itches all over the body. Fevers, inflammations and eye infections may also be anticipated.

Moon in the first house: The native becomes fanciful and romantic, a moderate eater. Considerable restlessness is usually tempered by an easy-going disposition. The fortune is generally changing. It makes one an idealist, a great traveller and explorer. If with Saturn, the mind will always be worried. If Mars is with the Moon, it indicates menstrual disorders in the case of women. Sociability tends to be a strong feature. He will be successful in professions that bring him into contact with the masses. The Moon in Lagna with Rahu indicates hysterical tendencies and with Jupiter, the mind is elevated.

Mars in the first house: This gives a hot constitution, courage, self-confidence and enterprise. The native will possess practical ability and love of liberity and independence. He becomes reckless of danger scorning defeat. This gives somewhat a rash nature. The body will have scars and the appearance will be handsome. The domestic life will be unhappy unless there are other favorable combinations. Abuse of physical resources may lead to ill-health. There is a proneness to accidents. The aspects should be carefully examined. Danger of cuts, burns etc are likely.

Mercury in the first house: This position makes the subject humorous. Quickness of wit and mental ingenuity tend to be strongly marked. The native becomes well-read, particularly in occult studies. In good aspect to Venus, it makes one musical and talented. Adaptability is a striking feature. Mercury makes the man intellectual. If there is a Rahu or Ketu in Lagna, the native suffers a lot of nervous troubles.

Jupiter in the first house: A magnetic personality is bestowed on the native. An optimistic spirit, jovial disposition and pleasant manners are indicated. The native will have more sons if the 5^th house is not afflicted. Self-indulgence especially in regard to gluttony will affect health. If with Rahu, sins will be committed. Body will be inclined towards corpulence. Lawyers, professors, writers, theologians etc come under this planet. The man becomes an influential leader. Diseases may result from impure blood.

Venus in the first house: This Is a fortunate combination, more so if the ascendant happens to be Capricorn or Aquarius. The native will possess amiability and a cheerful temperament responsive to the emotional side of nature. It gives an appreciation of art. There will be carving for pleasure and passions will be pronounced. The native will take interest in music, drama and singing. There will be fondness for scents, flowers etc. Those born in this sign will be admired by the opposite sex. Generally a good fortune is denoted. Fond of wife or husband, the native will have a magnetic and attractive personality. Marriage may take place early. If afflicted, it indicates discord in married life.

Saturn in the first house: Foreign customs will be easily copied and initiated. But, if Saturn is not afflicted there will be much consideration for the welfare or others. Self confidence is normally justified. Moral stability will also be marked. The disposition is calm, grave and serious. The body will be weak and emaciated. Progress in any venture will be slow but certain. There may be some aversion for responsibility. This position of Saturn makes habits inactive. Loss through negligence and lack of opportunity is possible. The same results will be noticed if the ascendant is aspected by Saturn. Misfortunes are likely in the early part of life.

Rahu in the first house: The health will be generally unsatisfactory calling for treatment other than by medical methods. It inclines one to the occult and the serious willfulness of nature is well marked. A hypocritical super consciousness towards others is likely. It makes one appear rather odd and eccentric. This combination is usually bad for marriage. Rahu will generally partake of the characteristics of Saturn.

Ketu in the first house: Psychic powers are likely. It denotes a weak constitution and emaciated figure. Instability and deceitfulness may influence the character. Morbid imagination, strange appetites, tendencies to excitability and wandering disposition become pronouncedly marked. Married life will be unhappy unless there are other favorable configurations.

 

The Ascendant

The Ascendant

The Ascendant indicates the physical body, complexion, appearance, head, intelligence, strength and energy and represents the native in all the divisions, especially the Navamsa (D-9 chart). Satyacharya adds fame and reputation, success and status etc. to be judged from the Ascendant. The Ascendant represents the self. The Lagna, Arudha Lagna and Varnada Lagna should be examined independently. The strength of these Ascendants, the karaka Sun and Chara Atmakaraka are vital to the chart. If the Sun has unobstructed Argala on Lagna or if obstructs papargala then it shall favour the native with status and fame. If the Lagna lord conjoins or aspects the Sun (even by Rasi Drsti) a good moral character is vouchsafed and it gives a happy and sunny dispositon. Similarly the Atmakaraka having unobstructed Argala on Lagna or obstructing Papargala gives good health and a blessed life. Instead if the Atmakaraka is ill placed or obstructed, the horoscope is marred. Similarly the position of the Sun and Chara Atmakaraka should be seen from the Arudha Lagna to determine the status and position of the native. A similar judgement from the Varnada Lagna gives his relative position in his community. However Varnada Lagna plays a vital role in matters concerning health and death.

Physical Characteristics of Ascendant

Aries: Dry and lean body; powerful limbs; middle stature; triangular face; dark and thickest eyebrows; long neck; dark or reddish complexion (the second half is darker); rough, wiry and curly hair; broad shoulders.

Taurus: Short, well-set and stumpy body; full face; small eyes; short thick neck; wide nostrils and mouth; Lustrous face; large shoulder; short and thick hands; love curl on forehead.

Gemini: Tall & straight body; long and thin arms; nervous and fidgety (quick response); dark complexion; dark hair; hazel and bright eyes.

Cancer: Moderate stature; round face; pale complexion and dedicate features; small or flat nose; small eyes. Features of the Moon sign are pronounced but in general the natives are timid.

Leo: Good stature; full body; well framed and upright; broad, well-set shoulders; bright brownish; oval face; ruddy complexion; dignified and royal bearing.

Virgo: Middle stature; slender; neat and prim; dark or ruddy complexion; pleasing countenance; long nose.

Sagittarius: Tall stature; well formed body; oval face, high forehead, prominent nose and clear eyes; fair complexion; open hearted; good bearing.

Capricron: Short/tall stature; slender body; thin face; plain looking; long protruding chin; thin neck; dark hair and weak knees; emaciated figure unless Saturn is strong.

Aquarius: Middle stature, stout and robust body that isn’t internally strong; long face; clear complexion; hazel eyes.

Pisces: Short to middle stature; thick build; round shoulders; large face; fair or pale complexion; sleepy or fish like eyes; soft speech.

Results of different signs ascending

Each sign of the zodiac when ascending imprints its own definite characteristics, mental, physical and personal. These have of course to be blended with nose of planets rising or aspecting. The following delineations are for signs alone without any planet in the first house. If any planet be there, it will modify these testimonies. The Sun adds nobleness to the figure and increases health of the constitution. The Moon indicates better proportion and greater delicacy of figure. Mars gives a fair ruddiness to the person, healthy constitution, sturdy figure, a temperament principally of heat and dryness. Mercury makes the stature proportionately well shaped, bodily temperament chiefly hot and yellowish complexion. Jupiter gives a fair complexion, large eyes and dignified stature. Venus produces qualities of a nature more applicable to feminity, beauty, softness anf greater delicacy of form. Saturn gives black and curled hair, tall figure, inactive and narrow chest.

The mental disposition should always be judged by reference to the Moon and his dispositor. This dispositions given below are of a general nature. In actual practice, however, they will be seen to vary from the normal in some respects, owing to the strength of the ruling sign, its ruler, planets aspecting the ascendant etc.

The liability to diseases and accidents is judged from the planets rising or setting, and those configurated with the Moon. When the Sun, the Moon and ascendant are afflicted by more than one of the malefics, liability to accidents and a violent or sudden death is indicated. Should Rahu and Ketu be in angles with the Sun and the Moon, the angles being Aries, Taurus, Scorpio and Capricorn, the body will be afflicted with distortions, lameness or even paralysis.

Aries Rising

Mental Tendencies: Independent thinking, courageous and sensitive

General Tendencies: Those born in Aries are lovers of scientific thought. They are enterprising and ambitious. They have the ability to plan. They dislike being guided by others; are intense when interested, vehement when excited. They are rather stubborn, but often frank. Quick tempered, they resent imposition and are liable to go to extremes. Their constitution will be hot. They love beauty, art and elegance. They have practical ideas. If Aries is afflicted, they suffer from diseases pertaining to head. Mental affliction and derangement are also likely if Saturn and the Moon are in Aries.

Taurus Rising

Mental Tendencies: Obstinate, proud and ambitious, easily accessible to adulation but affectionate and loving, sometimes unreasonable, prejudiced and stubborn.

General Tendencies: If they are not listened to attentively, people born in this sign will act like a bull. They are self reliant. They have their own principles and ways and a piercing intellect. They have a great deal of endurance, latent power and energy. They always put their ideas into practice. Their physical powers and mental endurance are indeed noteworthy. They are fond of pleasure and love beauty and music. They possess a magnetic personality and they think they are born for exercising authority. They generally suffer from nervous complaints after the fiftieth year. With regard to children, much happiness is not indicated.

Gemini Rising

Mental Tendencies: They will have a wavering mind. Fond of writing and reading, they are ingenious and quick-witted, vivacious and inconsistent, nervous and restless.

General Tendencies: They are active and tend to become experts in mechanical sciences. They may suffer sudden nervous breakdowns. They must be cautious in moving with the opposite sex. Their mind will be often conscious of their own depravity. They are very clever and possess inherent conversational and literary ability. They are liable to fraud and deception. If evil planets are in Gemini, trickery and   deceit will characterise their nature. They are best in occupations where there is much activity.

Cancer Rising

Mental Tendencies: People born in this sign will be extremely sensitive, inquisitive, nervous and restless, interested in music and dexterous.

General Tendencies: They are very intelligent, bright and extremely frugal and equal industrious. Their frugality often takes the form of miserliness. The mind is institutional and perceptive. They like pleasure and are deeply attached to their family and children. They often meet with disappointment in love affairs. They are very talkative, self reliant, honest and unbending. Their emotions are strong. They have psychic tendencies, are receptive to new ideas and adapt themselves to environment. They ar desirous of possessions and cautious. They can best take up occupations of a fluctuating nature.

Leo Rising

Mental Tendencies: People born in Leo are ambitious as well as avaricious, warm-hearted, and have a liking for art, literature and music. They are cheerful and non impulsive.

General Tendencies: They can adapt themselves to any condition in life. They have faith. In affection they are sincere. They stick to orthodox principles in religion but are perfectly tolerant. Generally good tempered, they are sensitive. They are lovers of music, literature and possess a certain amount of philosophical knowledge. They are voracious readers. In life they do not succeed as much as they would like to and often throughout they struggle very much. Their ambitions remain unfulfilled to a great extent. They are likely to suffer from nervous troubles and are generally misunderstood by their superiors and bosses.

Virgo Rising

Mental Tendencies: Those born with Virgo are impulsive, emotional and fond of learning. They love music and fine arts. They lack self-confidence. Methodological and ingenious. They have active mind.

General Tendencies: They exhibit their intelligence when quite young. They are discriminating and emotional and get easily carried away by impulse. They are cautious regarding their own interests, prudent, economical, diplomatic and shrewd. As authors, they make progress in physical and chemical sciences. They acquire much power and influence over others. They are liable to suffer from nervous breakdowns and paralysis when the sign is afflicted. They are of speculative nature.

Libra Rising

Mental Tendencies: Persons born in Libra are idealistic, quick-witted, vindictive, forceful and positive.

General Tendencies: People born in this sign are generally of a sensual disposition. They are keen observers of human nature. They have keen foresight and reason out things from the stand point of their own views. They love justice, peace, order and are agreeable persons. They are ambitious. They are more idealists than realists or practical men and often contemplate on schemes that are like building castles in the air. They are not sensitive to what others say of them. As political leaders and religious reformers, they exert tremendous influence over the masses and sometimes their zeal and enthusuasn can go to such a pitch that they can force their views upon unwilling minds. They are great lovers of music. Truth and honesty have a special appeal for them.

Scorpio Rising

Mental Tendencies: Sarcastic and impulsive, a female born in this sign will be masculine in nature. Interested in occult forms of study. They possess a subtle mind and are hard to influence.

General Tendencies: They will have generous disposition. They are exceedingly fickle-minded and love much excitement. Though inclined to sensual things in reality, they will not hesistate to philosophise upon the virtues of controlling sensual pleasures. They are good correspondents. They are often brutal, brusque and keenly fond of contest. They possess enterprise. They appreciate luxury but are frugal. They may become expert musicians if they learn that art. They can also become proficient in fine arts, dancing and the like. They uphold their own views. Their constitution will be hot and they are liable to suffer from piles. Sagittarius Rising

Mental Tendencies: Those born in Sagittarius have an inclination for philosophy and occult sciences. They can acquire great mastery in these subjects. Humane and somewhat impulsive, they are generally active and enterprising.

General Tendencies: They are of a phlegmatic temperament. They are too conventional and also business-like. They are prompt and uphold conservative views. They are sympathetic and loving and possess good foresight. At times they are restless and over-anxious. They are too callous and enthusiastic. They hate all external show. They are God-fearing, honest, humble and free from hypocrisy. They exercise strict control over their food and drinks and in regard to their relations with opposite sex. They are prone to be misunderstood unintentionally by others. In late years, they must be careful about their lungs as they are liable to suffer from rheumatic pains and the like.

Capricorn Rising

Mental Tendencies: They are stoical to the miseries of life. Possessed of sympathy, generosity and philanthropy, self-willed, strong in purpose, secretive and vindictive. Capricorn natives are cunning and determined.

General Tendencies: They have a knack to adapt themselves to circumstances. They have great aspirations in life and cannot economize funds. They like a lot of show. Noted for perseverance. They become vindictive when Saturn is afflicted and may becomes somewhat bigoted. They are capable of much endeavor. In the home life, they are perfectionists and often cannot get on well with husbands or wives. They should check this harmful tendency on their part. They are industrious. If Mars occupies any sign other than his own, they lack confidence, become funky, nervous and weak-minded. They can be described as chatter-boxes and have little or no control over their tongues.

Aquarius Rising

Mental Tendencies: Aquarius being a philosophical sign, people born in it become great teachers, writers and lecturers, provided the sign is free from afflictions. Natives of Aquarius are reserved, they are peevish when provoked, generous hearted, highly sympathetic and are always bent upon helping others. They are intelligent, good memory and capable of dealing with facts.

General Tendencies: They make friends of others very soon. They are peevish and when provoked, rise like a bulldog but their anger is easily subsided. They shine very well as authors and writers. Their conversation is always interesting. They are sometimes timid and funky. They feel shy to exhibit their talents before new audiences. They specialise in subjects like astrology and become great upholders of some such cause. Their literary greatness comes before the world when they are quite young. Unless the planetary positions are otherwise favorably situated, people born in this sign will suffer certain critical setbacks which will jeopardise their reputation. Owing to their humanitarian doctrines, they are prone to be misunderstood. In family life, they will not have sufficient happiness. They will be much devoted to their husbands or wives. They are liable to suffer from colic troubles, chest pain and the like. They should always be kept happy in life by their husbands or wives otherwise their health will suffer.

Pisces Rising

Mental Tendencies: Persons born in Pisces are stubborn, psychically receptive, highly religious, stoical, bigotted and God-fearing.

General Tendencies: They are respectors of orthodoxical principles and can forego anything but orthodoxy. They are extremely superstitious. They are very reserved and are liable to draw premature conclusions on any matter. They are God-fearing and very rigid in the observance of religious customs and practices. They are stubborn rather timid and ambitious to exercise authority over others. They rarely realise their ambitions. They are restless and fond of history, antiquarian talks and mythological masterpieces. They are frugal in spending money and though generally dependent upon others throughout their life, still bear a mark of independence. They are just in their dealings and fear to transgress the laws of truth. With all this they lack self-confidence.

Complexion

Each sign has a complexion and color, as well as an average length. The complexions are based on the planets lording the sign, whilst the colors are based on the signs themselves. The length of a sign determines the size of objects and the length of a native’s limbs (proportionate to their body). Some believe that the length of signs determines the height of a person however this is a misconception. The height is derived from the planets placed in quadrants to the lagna and the size measured in angula which is relative to the average width of one’s fingers.

The scriptures give a method to find the complexion of a person based on the candramsa, which is the Navamsa of the Moon. The Parampara teaches the following:

1. Take the lagna degrees and minutes and divide the number into two.
2. Count the quotient from the lagna.
3. The resultant sign will indicate the complexion.

Example: The Lagna is 14 degree 20’ Pisces. When divided by 2, the result is 7 deg 10’. This is equal to the 8^th degree. The 8^th sign from Pisces is Libra and its lord Venus will indicate a dark complexion. The colors are from the grahas lording the signs and not the signs themselves. The complexions are given in the table. It should be kept in mind that the color arrived at is relative to that of ones family, ie darker, lighter or otherwise compared to ones familiar relations. This technique is valuable for rectification purposes.

The Lagna is 9 degree 51’ Pisces. When divided by 2, the result is 4 degree 55’ which is equal to 5^th degree. The 5^th sign from Pisces is Cancer, and its lord Moon will give fair complexion and middle height. The native is having fair complexion and middle height.

The Lagna 15 degree 21’ Aquarius. When divided by 2, the result is 7 degree 40’ which is equal to 8^th degree. The 8^th sign from Aquarius is Virgo and its lord Mercury will give dark complexion and long height. Now the wheatish complexion of father and mother gave the native a fair complexion. The native has fair complexion and tall height (5’9”).

Karakamsa

Rules for analysis of Karakamsa (the sign occupied by Atmakaraka in Navamsa):

 

1. If Aries becomes Karakamsa, there will be trouble from the rats or cats.
2. If Taurus becomes Karakamsa, trade or business is expected.
3. If Gemini becomes Karakamsa and is aspected by benefic planets, one may develop corpulence. By the aspect of malefic planets to Gemini Karakamsa, one may suffer from eczema, itches etc.
4. If Cancer becomes Karakamsa, aspected by benefic planets, the native may suffer from dropsy or ascites. If the malefic planets aspect Cancer Karakamsa, the native may suffer from white or black leprosy.
5. If Leo becomes Karakamsa, the native may suffer from the disease due to dog-bite.
6. If Virgo becomes Karakamsa, the results of Gemini Karakamsa viz. Corpulence and itch may be mentioned. If the malefic planets aspect Virgo Karakamsa, fear from accident may be expected.
7. If Libra becomes Karakamsa, the native lives by business or he is clever in affairs of sale and purchase.
8. If Scorpio becomes Karakamsa, in its first half, danger from water, in its second half, danger from reptiles may be apprehended. First half means the longitude of the Atmakaraka in between 0 to 15 degrees and the second half means longitude of Atmakaraka in between 15-30 degrees.
9. If Sagittarius becomes Karakamsa, gradual fall from high place or from vehicle may happen.
10. If Capricorn becomes Karakamsa and is aspected by the aquatic planets, dangers from leeches or crocodiles may happen. If aspected by Khechara planets, danger from birds or spirits may happen. If aspected by more than two malefic planets, the native may suffer from eczema, fistula, scrofula or tumors. The Moon and Venus are aquatic planets whereas Saturn and Mercury are Khechara planets.
11. If Aquarius becomes Karakamsa, fall in still water like tank or well may happen or the native builds well and tanks.
12. If Pisces becomes Karakamsa, the native is virtuous and attains final emancipation of soul called Moksha. If Atmakaraka is placed in a benefic sign or benefic Navamsa, the native becomes rich. If benefics occupy any of the Kendras (1, 4, 7 and 10) from Atmakaraka, the native is certain to attain Rajayoga. He becomes high government officer, if Atmakaraka is exalted or placed in own or benefic Navamsa. While Navamsa Lagna is occupied by benefics and the last planet from Atmakaraka is a benefic planet, the native attains salvation or Moksha. In the above if benefics and malefics are connected, the native attains heaven. If the malefics only are connected, the native attains neither heaven nor hell.
13. If the Sun occupies the 2^nd house from Karakamsa, the native leads a political life. If the Sun is debilitated there, he becomes a low Government servant or often gets defeated in politics.
14. If the Moon and Venus occupy the 2^nd house from Karakamsa, the native luxurious and erudite, earning by the dissemination of learning to others. The Moon there is responsible for giving riches and luxuries, while Venus is responsible for his earnings through scholarships. The quantum of the above results varies according to the relative strengths of the Moon and Venus by their sign placement and longitudes.
15. If Mars occupies the 2^nd house from Karakamsa, make threefold predictions:

(i)                  Mars 0-10 degrees metallurgy, chemicals etc.

(ii)                Mars 10-20 degrees wears a weapon by name Kunta

(iii)               Mars 20-30 degrees goldsmithy, blacksmithy, cooking etc.

If the native is a Brahmin, he may live by paurohitya, cremation rites, homas and yajnas etc.

16. If Mercury occupies the 2^nd house from Karakamsa make four fold predictions:

(i)                  0-7 deg 30 min Businessman or merchant

(ii)                7 deg 30 min – 15 deg Weavers, cloth merchants or those connected with textiles.

(iii)               15-22 deg 30 min Sculptors

(iv)              22 deg 30 min-30 deg Litigants

17. If Jupiter occupies the 2^nd house from Karakamsa make three fold predictions:

(i)                  0-10 deg Man of action (Karma)

(ii)                10-20 deg Man of Wisdom (Jnana)

(iii)               20-30 deg Scholar of Vedas

18. If Venus occupies the 2^nd house from Karakamsa make three fold predictions:

(i)                  0-10 deg Politician or one who does Government job

(ii)                10-20 deg Passionate, lascivious and goes after women

(iii)               20-30 deg lives hundred years

19. If Saturn occupies the 2^nd house from Karakamsa, the native makes his living by performing yajnas or adheres to ancient customs and traditions or continues his ancestral vocations. In the next aphorism there are two chakras (conjunctions). Hence three results may be mentioned for Saturn in the 2^nd house of Karakamsa.

When Venus is located in house of malefic, is in any way related with Saturn, Rahu or Mars and is devoid of benefic influence, it is likely one will have liaison with women other than his wife. When Rahu affects Venus by aspect or conjunction in a malefic house, it makes a man highly sexy. When Rahu similarly damages seventh or eighth house and their lords and if same afflicted house or planet is not guarded by conjunction or aspect of beneficial planet, the similar results will be seen.

When afflicted Venus is in the seventh house or when lord of the seventh house is conjoined with Rahu or in opposition to Rahu and is not aspected or conjoined with any benefic, one is likely to have unlawful relations with woman other than his wife. The malefic results are more intense if seventh lord in the above circumstances is also aspected or conjoined by Mars or Saturn and Venus is also unpleasantly placed. Similar results are experienced when Venus in seventh house identical with movable sign with Rahu aspected by malefics. When both Venus and the lord of the seventh house are positioned in a house of a malefic planet, one is likely to have a loose sex life.

Brihat Jataka, Jataka Tattva and Saravali have generally not mentioned favorably in regards to morals of a man if Mars and Venus are related. Venus is a rajas planet; he gets afflicted the moment he comes in contact with tamas planet like Mars. If Venus and Mars join in the seventh house aspected by malefics, there will be serious danger as far as sex life is concerned. Mars rules the criminal and warring sensations and feelings.

In matrimonial matters, it is a well known fact that Mars causes greater evil than any other planet. If the influence of Mars on Venus is patent, potent and unerring the native is sure to become too passionate and adulterous (Mars with Venus indicates that native will be adulterous and gambler – Brihat Jataka). He may indulge in unnatural ways to gratify his lust. If Venus is in seventh house in Navamsa of Mars and is also aspected by Mars and is in no way guarded by any benefic planet, one is likely to have sex relations with married woman. When Venus in seventh house in Navamsa of Mars is also afflicted by Saturn, similar result is produced. Venus and Mars in seventh Bhava and the Navamsa of Venus falling in the sign of Mars and Navamsa of Mars in the sign of Venus make the native highly immoral. According to Brihat Jataka, if Venus is in the Navamsa of Mars or in the house of Mars or associated with or aspected by Mars, the person will indulge in masturbation. Similar opinions have been expressed in Jataka Tattva and Saravali. A conjunction of Mars and Venus or their mutual aspect indicates discord in marital life.

Venus and Saturn are friends but since Saturn is embodiment of idleness which is the root of looseness in morals. Association of Venus and Saturn in any matter gives bad results unless such a Venus is powerfully guarded i.e. influenced by benefics. When Venus is in seventh house in Navamsa of Saturn and is devoid of any benefic influence a person is likely to have illicit relations with married women older than him in age. When Venus is in seventh house in Navamsa of Saturn is aspected by Mars, one is likely to have relations with married woman. Similar results are experienced when Venus is in Aquarius, Dwadashamsa of the ascendant and Saturn in Seventh house from Venus or Navamsa of Venus and Saturn falling in seventh from each other. Venus in seventh house having signs of either Mars or Saturn (1, 8, 10, 11) and aspected by Mars or Saturn or Saturn conjoined with Venus in Mars signs (Aries or Scorpio) gives immoral tendencies. Saturn aspected by Venus or Saturn conjoined with Venus and lord of second makes a person profligate.

When the lords of second and seventh house together with Venus join the lagna Bhava and no benefic joins them, one is likely to have a questionable sex life. When the lord of lagna joins the lord of sixth house and they both are afflicted by malefic planets, the result is same. When the lords of lagna and second house along with malefics join the seventh house and are also conjoined with or aspected by lord of sixth house, the person is likely to have connection with woman other than his wife. When the lords of sixth and seventh houses join the ninth house and conjoined with or aspected by any malefic planet, they make a person too much sexy. When the lords of second and seventh houses join the tenth house along with sixth lord and be any way afflicted, they will bring illegal sex relations in a man’s life.

Late Mr. J. N. Bhasin in his book “Art of Prediction” has observed that the 6^th house of the horoscope doesn’t merely stand for enemies and traits of enemity, it also stands for the trait of not belonging to us. This house thus has a tendency to bring things from outside and having relations with other woman is nothing but sharing the bed comforts of wife (12^th to 7^th) with somebody else. Besides sixth house is house of “Ripu” i.e. senses, therefore all our desires are controlled by this house. Thus when sixth house is afflicted and it makes relation with any of the houses and planets ruling sex partner, one may be rough about his sex life, may indulge into violent behaviors etc. He may bring some body to share the bed of his wife from outside. Thus when malefic sixth lord makes a relation with house or planet ruling sex partner, similar results will be witnessed.

Venus in Marriage & Sex – 1

In matters related to marriage and sex, Venus occupies an important position as it is lord of 2^nd and 7^th sign of Zodiac and also is Karaka of all the ingredients connected with sex and marriage. If one scans through various significations of Venus as mentioned earlier, it won’t escape our notice how aptly Venus represents marriage and sex. Marriage is nothing but a lasting union between a male and female governed by mutual contract – open or secret. But in Hindu religion Contract of marriage is something more than a civil agreement. However the concept of marriage has widened its horizon with passage of time and number of religions coming into existence. The marriage can be open or secret and even not be a legal marriage. The marriage could exist in various forms depending upon the conditions of religion, country and individual beliefs. In Hindu religion, it is still something above a civil agreement and its seed all lay in various incarnations. However the intention is not to examine this sacred institution philosophically but to analyze it astrologically. In astrology, the legality or otherwise of a union is a matter of very secondary importance. Astrological examinations are not bound to any rules of religion and custom. Unions when given legal form become marriage and any union outside the legal restriction can be called only sexual relationship born out of passion and lasciviousness. However marriage amongst Hindus assume a very important factor and while deciding a marriage partner, a lot of attention is paid to various factors such a physical fitness, mental qualities, heredity, sexual compatibility and social and economic status. Hindu astrological treaties reveal several astrological factors pertaining to connubial felicities or contrariwise. In the following paragraphs, various aspects are considered astrologically in a limited way. The classical writers like Varahamihira, Mantreshwara and Mahadeva have unanimously observed that effects with regard to male, all those that may be found in female horoscope, should be stated as applicable to men also. Those not applicable to them should be ascribed to their husbands. This statement is to a great extent correct but there are certain niceties of female horoscope which are not available in a male chart or cannot be even ascribed to t5he husband and it is because of this aspect some classical writers have devoted a complete chapter to female horoscopy. One cannot miss this in Saravali.

BALANCED SEX LIFE

Venus is the most important of the planets which covers the sex life in a male. Her strength, situation etc and relation with other planets are very important the sex life of a male. When Venus is well placed, strong and unafflicted, she gives a balanced sex life.

In a horoscope to judge the nature of affliction is very tricky job and requires lots of skill and experience. A planet is unafflicted when it is neither conjoined with nor aspected by any malefic. A planet is said to be afflicted when the same is either conjoined with or aspected by a malefic. When a planet is conjoined with or aspected by both benefics and malefics, it possesses a dual character. It may result into both benefic and malefic effects. But the stronger will predominate. When the conjoining or aspecting benefic planet is stronger than the conjoining or aspecting malefic planet, the evil effect may be completely checked, but while it is weaker, the evil forces may not be checked. When the afflicted planet is situated in house of a benefic, the evil forces are much minimized, while the planet is situated in house of a malefic, the evil qualities increase.

When Venus is situated in her own house, in house of mooltrikona or in exaltation, she gives one balanced sex life, provided she is not in any way weak or afflicted.

Saturn, Mars, Sun, waning Moon, Rahu, Ketu and Mercury when associated with any of the foregoing planets are known as malefic planets and of them Saturn, Mars, Rahu and Ketu are highly malefic. When a malefic planet is a yogakaraka and is in a house of a benefic, the malefic character is much minimized. When Rahu or Ketu is well placed and in the house of benefic or with a benefic, the malefic quality of the planet is also much minimized. When Venus is situated in a house owned by any of the above planets, sex life of male is likely to be disturbed. When Saturn, Mars, Rahu or Ketu makes relationship with Venus by aspect or conjunction, a male is likely to have unbalanced sex life. If Venus is in house of either Mars or Saturn and is also aspected by Mars or Saturn, a person is certainly going to suffer from troubled sex life. If above are also aspected by or conjoined with any benefic planet, particularly by Jupiter, there may not be any trouble. Influence of Mars or Rahu over Venus by association or aspect makes a person highly sexy, provided Venus is situated in house of a malefic and also devoid of any benefic conjunction or aspect.

Jupiter, waxing Moon and unafflicted Mercury are the benefics and their conjunction with Venus or their aspect over Venus is always good for normal sex life in a male horoscope. Jupiter is highly benefic planet and his relationship with Venus is always good for balanced and normal sex life. When lords of Kendras and Trikonas join or aspect Venus, they increase the happiness of sex life, while association of Venus with other lords particularly with lords of evil houses (i.e. dusthana – sixth, eighth and twelfth houses) is not good. When Venus is in evil house or in the house of debilitation being afflicted, she causes harms to sex life of a male.

As mentioned above, Venus with lords of quadrants is very welcome and so its placement there but ownership (Kendra adhipatya) or situation in unfavorable constellation or constellation of malefic or her position between malefics makes Venus afflicted or weak as the case may be and harms sex life. This position of Venus changes the mind and gentle nature altogether and one behaves more cruelly. Similar is the case when malefics are posited in quadrants to Venus or Chaturasra (the 4^th and 8^th house). She is to some extent like Moon, who is malefic when devoid of digit power and like Mercury who becomes a malefic directly when comes in contact with other malefic. In hundreds of horoscopes it has been observed by me that an afflicted Venus gives an unbalanced sex life and has given more than one wife or sexual union with more than one woman.

 

Case Study 1:

In this chart, Venus is in 12^th house and Venus position in 12^th house is very beneficial for relationship/marriage matters. Also Venus is quite unafflicted. Venus is definitely aspected by Rahu but Rahu has lost his malefic effect significantly being conjoined with exalted Jupiter and placed in 11^th house. Also Venus is in 9^th from AL which is again an excellent placement. Adding more to it, his first relationship materialized into marriage as 7^th lord from Venus is Rahu and is conjoined with Jupiter (7^th lord from Moon & Lagna) and is Darakaraka too. This marriage was a stable one because 2^nd lord from UL is Venus and Venus is quite well placed as discussed above.

Case Study 2:

In this chart, Venus is exalted in Lagna and dispositor of Venus, Jupiter, is also well placed in 10^th house from Lagna. Though Rahu is conjoined with Venus but being in Jupiter’s house and unafflicted by any other malefic planet reduces the malefic effect of Rahu significantly. The marriage was lasting one because the 2^nd lord from UL is Venus and is in exaltation and unafflicted too. More to it, Venus is in Digbala from AL (AL shifted to 10^th house being 7^th from AL is stronger).

Case Study 3:

In this chart, Venus is very well placed in 5^th house in Pisces, exaltation sign of Venus and is unafflicted neither being conjoined with nor aspected by any malefic planet. More to this, Jupiter is in 8^th from Venus (benefic planet in Chaturasra). This altogether gave a very good marital life to Astaire Fed. Adding more to this, he has Jupiter in trines to Moon giving chaste relationship to him.

The presence of a planet in a sign indicates its intrinsic effect depending on intense action and reaction of planets and signs. The nature of the sign in its totality reacts with the characteristics of the planet and the resultant indicates the behavior pattern of the native.
